Leeds Sports Awards
2012 represents
a landmark year for sport in the UK in which the nation hosts the
world's greatest sporting event and we are presented with a unique
opportunity to celebrate the achievements of our local sports men
and women. The 9th annual Leeds Sports Awards will kick start
our City's Olympic preparation with a very special celebration of
the world beating talent from Leeds.
Taking place at the Centenary Pavilion, Elland Road on
Thursday 15th March, the 2012 Awards promise to be the largest and
most highly anticipated ceremony yet, raising the bar for
recognising sporting achievements. This years' event has set a new
personal best, not only in the number of nominations received, but
also the quality and breadth of sporting achievements. We are
delighted to have an opportunity to showcase our world class
sporting talent, as well as the outstanding volunteers, coaches and
administrators who make our City so unique in the world of
sport.
We are also delighted to announce Leeds City College as title
sponsor of The Leeds Sports Awards. Leeds City College plays a
key role in encouraging and supporting athletes of all ages to
participate in both team and individual sports, helping to shape
our city's future sporting stars. It is in recognition of this that
this year will also see the introduction of a special award -The
Leeds City College Sports Personality of the Year.
We hope that The Leeds Sports Awards will also bring together local businesses and the sporting industry. The 2012 Games has provided a fantastic opportunity for Yorkshire's industry, with over 220 locally based companies winning Olympic contracts summing to approximately £73m.
