Garbutt & Elliott strengthen Tax and VAT team

Leading Yorkshire accountants Garbutt & Elliott have recruited a specialist VAT consultant to strengthen their existing team and to expand their client base.

Brian Birt, who will be working from both the York and the Leeds offices of the award-winning accountants, joins from PKF accountants in Leeds.

Brian, who was educated at Queen’s University in Belfast, studied law at the York College of Law, before switching to accountancy. He worked for Ernst & Young before moving to PKF in 2003.

Brian will be working with the firm’s Head of Tax Nick Scull, who commented: “Brian’s extensive experience of VAT will be invaluable to our clients and I am delighted to welcome him to our expanding tax department.”

He specialises in working out VAT solutions for golf clubs and universities and his clients include golf clubs across Yorkshire and both universities in Leeds. He also has a number of national clients.

He said: “I have moved to Garbutt & Elliott because the chance to expand their existing tax and VAT client base across Yorkshire and the North East is a tremendous challenge. I will relish the chance to assume more responsibility.
