Charity thanks SH! Awards
Close to £2,500 has been raised for Meningitis Research Foundation (MRF) following the annual SH! Awards which took place in May this year. Organised by Leeds Media, part of Leeds, York and North Yorkshire Chamber, and sponsored by Numiko the awards gave local students the chance to get their foot in the door of the region’s creative industry by entering their work into the Awards to win a six month placement. The Sh! Awards, aimed at second and final year students covered a range of disciplines including advertising, web design, graphic design and illustration.
The event attracted an overwhelming number of entries with the three winners named as Stephanie Ogilsby from Leeds College of Art, James Lashmar from University of Huddersfield and Polly Williams also from Leeds College of Art, each winning a six month with a Leeds agency.
The awards were set up by creative agency Brass in the memory of Stuart Hocknell, a talented young designer who died of meningitis in 2002. Stuart was a champion of young designers and believed in creating links between agencies and local universities. £948 was raised on the night with a further £1,500 being awarded to the charity by 96.3 Radio Aire & Magic 828’s Cash for Kids.
Kate Baldwin, Corporate & Development Fundraising Officer at MRF said: “Huge thanks to the Chamber for organising the awards and to their team who were so enthusiastic on the night. The money raised at the SH! Awards will allow us to continue our fight against meningitis and septicaemia.”
Helen Silverman, membership development manager at the Chamber added:”We were pleased to be involved in the SH! awards which gives young people a platform to showcase their creative talent. We’re also grateful to the sponsors for their time and contribution to making it such a great event.”
The sponsors included Brass, Intermarketing, Elmwood, BT, Round Foundry Media Centre, Engage Interactive and Coolpink.
