PPiK hold region's first junior karting league
Local budding Formula One racing drivers have recently participated in the region’s first Junior Go Karting league at Pole Position Indoor Karting (PPiK), The North’s Finest Indoor Karting Arenas.
PPiK’s new ‘mini leagues’ were introduced after demand from the young regular drivers at the Leeds & Wetherby based circuits. Drivers between the ages of 8 and 15 raced over three rounds and on various race formats making the racing changeable and exciting. As well as racing on two different circuits, which offers drivers of all ages and experience levels a challenge, there are some fantastic prizes, medals and trophies on offer at each round.
Competition was fierce in both the junior (8 to 12) and intermediate (13 to 15) classes. The Mini League 1 Champions were crowned in August out on circuit after some fantastic close racing – the junior mini league 1 was won by Van Knapton & the intermediate mini league 1 was won by Dale Proud.
Ginetta have announced their support of the PPiK Mini League by offering the main end of year prizes of family passes to a 2013 Ginetta GT Supercup and Ginetta Junior Championship round of their choice - which supports the British Touring Car Championships - for the Junior winner, as well as a test day in a Ginetta G40J for the Intermediate winner, taking place at Croft Circuit, North Yorkshire. This is a fantastic opportunity for a young, local driver to experience a real racing car out on track and will let them have first-hand experience of how a race car performs on circuit.
Chairman of Ginetta and 2006 Le Mans 24hr GT2 Winner Lawrence Tomlinson said; “We are delighted to be able to offer the winners of the PPiK Mini League a chance to experience the thrill of Ginetta racing. Ginetta provide the perfect next step from karting into car racing, and we want to help them by showing them the door to the next level.”
Other local companies have kindly offered their support, Accent Clothing and Leeds Golf Centre are sponsoring the PPiK Mini League with fantastic prizes which will be given away to each of the Mini League winners in 2012. Other companies have also offered gift vouchers and various other products as prizes for the young kart drivers.
Louise Schneider, Director of Accent Clothing in Leeds said; “'We are really thrilled to be involved in the PPiK Junior Karting League. This is where it all starts for young drivers and its great to be able to support the Lewis Hamilton's and Jenson Button's of the future. Good luck to all those that have entered and have fun!”
Business Development Manager at Leeds Golf Centre, Leigh Tasker added; “We’re delighted to support PPiK’s Junior Karting League – their commitment to junior sport very much echoes that of Leeds Golf Centre and we hope our partnership proves fruitful long into the future. We’d like to wish competitors the very best of luck and look forward to welcoming prize winners to our superb facilities throughout the season”.
The PPiK Mini Leagues are open for registrations now, Mini league 3 runs from 4th November, entry costs just £75 for all three rounds drivers gaining points for overall results, fastest lap times and driver of the day awards. Drivers aged between 8 and 15 should log on to www.ppik.net and follow the easy steps to register to race. Companies wishing to support this year’s PPiK Mini League are asked to get in touch directly with the venues.
